Jim Davies done TM proud at the opening round of this years British 2 Stroke Championship with an incredible 2nd overall.
With the absence of long term TM pilot and 125 supremo' Jonathan Pettitt, still out due to injury, it was privateer Jim Davies who stood up to the challenge and impressed all with his current show of form. The venue for the first round of this years Championship was Mildenhall, conditions were perfect, the sun was shining, but best of all the was the incredible sounds and smells that mean one thing, and one thing only, 125cc 2 stroke machines, unbeatable!.
Jim who finishined 4th in last years Championship came out all guns blazing for 2009 and set a qualification time that was 4 seconds clear of anyone else in his group, in setting this time Jim did have an 'off' which lead to him being in some discomfort all day with a badly bruised shoulder. However, this was to become second position after a timing malfunction allowed a small group of riders to take to a changed track for a second chance at qualifying.
The gate dropped for race one and the awesome sound of 125's on full bore echoed around the enclosed facility, Jim started well but a fallen rider in his path saw Jim and his TM part company in the first turn. a long battle ensued and by the chequered flag Jim had clawed his way from last to an incredible 6th place, with 4th place achievable if only there had been one more lap.
the start of race 2 saw Jim running in the top ten, he picked his moments carefully around the ever increasing ruts and soldiered his way through the pack onboard the howling TM to finish in 2nd position.
An excellent jump from the gate in Race 3 put Jim into the first turn at the business end of the pack, within a couple of laps he was in second and hunting first, picking his lines he eventually found a way through and took the lead. With two laps to go and with Willet behind Jim pushed on. However it was not to be, a couple of small mistakes and smashing into a post, resulting in a damaged clutch lever and a cut hand, gave Willet the chance of a pass, to which no second invitation was needed. With a mere lap to go Jim was relegated to second with no time to re-compose and counter attack that is how the results stood.
The 3 race results, 6-2-2, were good enough to earn Jim 2nd overall for the day and gave him an incredible start to his season and to his championship fight.
Jim: "i am a bit gutted that i went down in race 1's start, that made it hard work, and that i lost the lead in the last race but hey, i will do it, i know i can do it, i want to take wins. The bike is mega, stock too apart from dialling in the clickers and dropping the needle, it was awesome out there, pinned !."
Jim, a big well done from all at TM UK, Bobs, keep up the good work.
A little mention for some of the other TM riders, Ben Milward on a 144 in 250 A's, TMX competition winner Lance Harland in 250 A's, Josh Walker 125 B's, Anthony McGladdery 250 B's, Jamie Maclean 125's, to name a few, well done everyone, how many TM's were there this year?!
And of course a big thankyou to all of our sponsors and supporters, Thank you.
