TM Racing's new 250cc 4t machine made its debut at the 3rd round of the Italian National championships. both TM Racing and the young Czechoslovakian rider Martin Michek were more than impressed with the new machines performance. Having spent the winter months with the new machine logging hour upon hour of testing time on the bench and on the track to gain valuable performance and reliability data, the new machine was unveiled, and its first outing was a success.
Michek, who has been competing on TM 450cc 4t for the past 2 seasons had only ridden the new 250cc 4t machine a few times before the event took place. Still unfamiliar with the new bike he qualified in the lower order, which severely handicapped his starting position, but concluded the day with a seventh place in race one and twelfth place in race two after a crash mid race.
The next weekend saw the young pairing take to the track once more for the fourth and final round of the Italian National Championship. Michek, now re-adjusting himself to the 250 riding style, qualified in fifth position and after 20 laps of racing finished the first race in fourth place, only seconds behind third place finisher, American sensation Zach Osbourne. Race two however was a different story, a collision on the start saw Michek relegated to the back of the pack where he then had to fight through the field, fight he did and by the end of the race Michek had brought himself into eleventh position.
Martin Michek: "the bike is fantastic, the more i ride it the more i like it. It was a pity in race two but my balance is positive. i am satisfied.
The Machine:.......
All new 250cc 4t single cylinder downdraught watecooled engine featuring fuel injection. The new engine shares no components from the current unit, even the clutch and gearbox assembly are all brand new. The new unit is lighter and dimensionally smaller and this has allowed a new chassis to be designed specifically for this model. Although similar in appearance to the 450cc 4t frame it features a reduction in size to accommodate the new smaller 250cc 4t power unit, this has made the chassis lighter also.
Full specifications coming soon.
