MXGP - Germany - Tough going for Bernadini  (May 9, 2016)

The MXGP circus moves from the Latvian sand to the hard ground of Teutschental, in Germany, for this round of the World Championships.

Samuele found it hard in the timed tests to find the right feeling with the track, however the times set by the Tuscan driver were better than he felt they were and this bodes well for a good a qualifying heat.

At the start of Saturday's qualification race Bernardini managed to start well, but in the first corner an opponent knocks him hard, Samuele has sustained some bad bruising and swelling and was forced to retire. During Saturday evening Samuele received several sessions of physiotherapy in a bid to recover for Sunday's races.

The position on the gate is not easy, but a good slingshot sees the TM Factory pilot ending the first lap in sixth place, a pace that he can keep for several laps with a good rhythm. Unfortunately in the corner after the pits a collision with an opponent sees Samuele literally thrown to the ground, in the fall the bike is the victim, a problem with the throttle forces him to return to pit lane to fix the problem. With a great comeback Samuele manages to win a point.

In race 2 Samuele completes a great ride. After another good start Bernardini manages to hold on to the sixth position throughout the race, during the penultimate lap he sets his personal best lap time, a sign that his physical condition is getting better.

Samuele occupies the ninth position in the current rankings.

The next meeting is in Arco di Trento, for the first Grand Prix in Italy this season.

Marco Ricciardi commented on the race: "Weekend was not easy, Samuel has had a problem on Saturday with the fall at the start because of an opponent. In the first race from 35th position at the gate is very strong, he was sixth when he was brought down by another rider but still managed to take a point. In the second race Samuel was exceptional, I am very honored to work with a driver of his caliber, he finished sixth and clocked his best time in the final laps, this means that it has an excellent physical shape and has put a great commitment and will power and brought us a great result."
