Callum Gasson Takes To The Top Step at BYN  (Aug 16, 2015)

TM UK's, Callum Gasson, took himself and his TM 85 MX machine to the top step of the podium at the final round of the 2015 British Youth National Championship held this weekend at Fatcat Motopark in Doncaster.

With some horrendous weather in the days leading up to the event, the track was not even re-prepped until Saturday morning, just prior to Callum taking to the circuit for his timed qualification session for the big wheel class. With the sun now shining brightly it was a beautiful day, but with little time for the sun to work its magic the sandy track was still extremely boggy in places, nevertheless Callum set about putting in some fast laps and for his efforts took a solid 8th fastest time.

With 6 races to contest over the weekend, 3 on Saturday and 3 on Sunday, it was a hectic schedule, but once again it all ran well, so a big congratulations to the RHL team for this. Callum put together 6 good race results, riding well and using his head, a very calculating Callum did enough to put himself in with a good chance of taking first overall for the event. with 5 of the races completed Callum headed the score charts by the narrowest of margins, the gate dropped for the final race a good jump and a clever first turn saw Callum well inside the top ten. However, on the first lap Callum collided with an opponent, he went down, now remounted and back on a charge Callum had work to do as he tried to catch the tail end of the pack. With an absolutely epic ride Callum set some of the fastest lap times throughout the race, even when working through traffic, pulling himself back to an incredible 4th place by the chequered flag, with 3rd in his sights!. An incredible ride that not only saw him take a very well deserved overall win for the event but also cemented his 2015 championship standing in this final race of the series.

So, with the championship now concluded it was time to tally the points...... with a difficult start to the season, after Callum had sat out most of the winter period recovering with an injury, he put in some good rides to get his championship started earlier in the year. As the season has progressed, with Callum coming back to form, he has slowly pushed his way further up the score-charts event by event, coming into this last round sitting in a good 4th place overall in the most hotly contested youth championship in the UK. Now with the final chequered flag of the BYN season waved Callum's great efforts on track, the speed and reliability of his TM Racing 85 MX machine, and with some great support from the people around him, Callum has taken an awesome 2nd overall in the championship.

A massive well done to Callum (Mr Smooth), a very well deserved result for one of the most determined, talented, motivated and politest of people, I hope that 'podium pie' tasted as good as it looked mate !. A huge thank you to the Gasson family who's commitment to Callum's racing is incredible, Waylon, Leanne, Jude and Sienna, well done to all of you. A big well done to the SMR Team of Alex and Jamie Needham and Sammy Beresford for all of their efforts in the BYN this season, they ended their championships with Alex in 14th place, Jamie in 18th place and Sammy in 11th place, well done to all involved. Finally a very big thank you to all of the teams sponsors and supporters who make all of this possible. Thank you, TM UK.
