Zanotti Out Of 2012 Dakar (Jan 5, 2012)
Allesandro Zanotti the 34 year old Italian from San Marino nicknamed the 'Lion of the Desert' has withdrawn from the 2012 Rally Dakar.
Piloting a TM Racing concept machine for this years rally Zanotti was all set for the 14 days of competition and the 9000Kms distance to be covered, travelling from Mar del Plata in Argentina across the Andes into Peru and onward to Chile to the finish at Lima, but luck was not on his side. A mousse failure left him nursing his machine onward at a reduced pace at an altitude of 3500ft above sea level whilst already battling a mystery illness, with the temperature reaching 50 degrees and with the sickness taking hold Zanotti rode his machine into retirement in the search of medical treatment.
