The legendary Foxhill Moto Park in Wiltshire played host to round 6 of the British Motocross Championships this past weekend and the highly contested MX1 and MX2 classes took to the former GP track, nestled in its own amphitheatre, and gave us a good days racing at the highest levels. The forecasted sunny weather did come as promised on Sunday and it was a scorcher of a day, even some scattered cloud cover did little to lower the temperatures and the very dry track was treated to some water throughout the course of the event to keep the dust down... which certainly kept the riders on their toes.
The TM UK team riders of Stuart Edmonds, Jim Davies and Ryan Pottenger were competing at this event and it was Stuart on his TM 250Fi machine that was first out for practice and qualifying in the MX2 class, setting the 9th fastest time in the Q1 timed session Stuart then went into Q2 superpole and upped his start position by one place finishing 8th. Straight out after the MX2 qualifying was the MX1 class riders and the TM pilots of Jim Davies on his TM 250cc 2-Stroke machine and Ryan Pottenger on his TM 450cc machine, Jim worked the 2 stroke on the tacky track and posted the 22nd fastest time whilst Ryan took a while to find a groove and set his quickest lap on the last lap of his session to put himself into 36th place.
With three scheduled races for each class, rotating between MX2 and MX1, it was going to be a busy turnaround throughout the day and after cleaning and re-prepping the machines post qualifying it was now race time, here is a brief summery of both classes...
In MX2 Stuart Edmonds on his TM 250Fi machine took three good starts and turned them into three better finishes, Stuart rode incredibly well in all three moto's racing bar to bar with the 'cream' of UK motocross talent and took his machine to an 8 - 8 - 7 scorecard, just missing out on 6th place in race one after he succumbed to the dreaded arm pump. This result gave him eighth overall on the day and more importantly he now nestles nicely into the 2011 Championship top ten standings in 9th place.
In the MX1 class Jim Davies turned heads on his TM 250cc 2-Stroke machine battling hard and taking his to machine his best ever finishes in the 4-stroke dominated class, Jim finished the day with a 16 - 14 - 16 scorecard, this gave Jim 16th overall on the day and he now sits only 26 points shy of a top twenty spot. Young Ryan Pottenger on the big 450cc TM machine regained some of the pace we know he has and rode smoothly to finish all three motos on the track that has given him numerous injuries over the years, Ryan finished the day with some of his best British Championship results of the season with a 30 - 28 - 29 scorecard.
The next round of the championship will be held at Duns on the Scottich borders on the weekend of the 13th /14th of August.
With thanks to all our sponsors and supporters. Thank you, TM UK.
