Round three of the ACU British 2-Stroke Championship was held yesterday at the Dean Moor circuit near Whitehaven, Cumbria and Team TM UK was there once more to compete. With four riders split over 2 classes, Stuart Edmonds and Christian Lyth in the Open class on their 250cc TM machines and Jim Davies and Ryan Pottenger in the 125cc class on their 125cc TM machines, it was a hectic schedule in what turned out to be less than perfect conditions.
After the mud bath of qualifying was over and the 4 TM mounted riders had posted their times in the heavy and slippery conditions it was only a short turnaround time before the first race of the day. With the track slowly drying throughout the day the three race schedule gradually eased as the conditions improved, the turnaround time also increased easing the strain on the mechanics who were busily cleaning and re-preparing the machines for their next races. Once three races had been completed the days results for the TM team were as follows…..
In the 125cc class it was Jim Davies who narrowly missed out on the overall victory after a small mistake in the dying laps of race two cost Jim some precious points, however Jim went on to finish the day with a 2 / 2 / 1 scorecard, clinching the final race victory of the day and taking 2nd overall Jim now sits in second place in the Championship standings.
Ryan Pottenger took his 125cc TM machine to 6th overall on the day, after battling hard through the combined 125 and Open class traffic from some difficult starts Ryan worked hard and clawed his way back through the pack to finish the day with a 6 / 4 / 5 scorecard.
In the Open class Christian Lyth 'upped his game' and posted some impressive lap times on his TM 250cc machine, once again Christian, who runs in the Junior class in other series, showed that he is adapting to the larger capacity 2-Stroke machine well and finished the day in 9th place overall with a scorecard of 8 / 10 / 11, the last race of the day being the unfortunate one for Christian as his silencer slipped in its mounting bracket forcing him to reduce his pace to complete his required percentage of laps.
Regular open class front runner Stuart Edmonds, on his TM 250cc machine, was determined to take the victory this weekend and seemed to revell in the difficult conditions. After a difficult start left Stuart with work to do in race one to finish in 3rd place he then went on to take two convincing wins in races two and three to take the overall victory for the day, Stuart now leads the championship standings as we look forward to the penultimate round in a months time.
With thanks to all our sponsors and supporters. Thank you.
