Stuart Edmonds Racing Diary  (May 10, 2010)

In the last two weeks I reckon I have spent a good 30 hours just driving in the van alone, from last week travelling 8 hours up to Scotland and 8 hours back, to this weekend driving to Whitby which is another 5 hours up and 5 back, also my couple of days training on the bike during the week has been tiring but I am slowly starting to get the results I deserve and my fitness and bike time is coming to its prime, I still have a lot of work to be doing to get to where I want to be fitness wise and that will only show in time. Things like these cant be rushed because if it is we can easily burn out and that’s not what I want, but at the same time I just want a couple weeks to go by and be mega fit, ha ha, but things are not easy you got to work for it. If you want it bad enough we got to push our self to the limit to achieve it.

Last weekend was the 3rd round of the Maxxis British championship in Scotland. The track is very well prepped by JDH (Johnny Douglas Hamilton) that man sure knows how to build a track. With the chilly weather blowing the cold air across the hill side it cut threw me like hot knife into butter so I was well wrapped up and getting warm going to qualifying. I managed to get a couple good laps in and placed my self in 19th place which was my best this year so far. I felt comfortable on the bike and seemed to ride the track well.

Race 1: I got a good start and managed to be around top 8 ish but I soon found myself riding to tense and I was pumped up before the half way stage, I slowly relaxed and a few people had passed me but when I got my rhythm back I was able to push again and start picking them of one by one, it was a hard track to pass because it was so fast and had big jumps. I had caught up with a group of riders but couldn’t get passed one of them and I had to settle for 17th place in the end.

Race 2: was a better race for me I got a rely good start and managed to ride a bit smoother, I had also looked at the track found some really good lines and I reckon that helped a lot and I ended up 15th.

Race 3: It was a harder race for me I had a mid pack start and found it hard to get into my rhythm I reckon I was sleeping on the first few laps as towards the end of the race I had passed a good few riders and got into 16th place with 4 laps to go, catching 15th place but I made a stupid mistake and went down on the last lap so I ended up in another 17th place.

The past weekend I raced at Whitby in the British masters but I was doing 4 moto’s, two on the 450 and two on the 250fi, with the track being a supercross type track it kept the racing really tight and was good to watch and hard old school bashing type racing, there were all types of manoeuvres happening on the track!. I placed 15th in the mx2 qualifying and 11th in the mx1.

In race 1 of the mx1 I managed to take the holeshot and lead for near enough a full lap until Elderfield dived up my inside on one of the jumps, I managed to ride smooth and stay on and brought it home in 12th place just behind Jamie Law who managed to hold me off on the last lap.

Race 1 in mx2 I felt really comfortable going into the race after getting a good start and finishing high in the mx 1 race, I was planning a good finish in the mx 2 as well.

I got a decent start around mid pack and worked from there, in the mx2 class it was so tight, if you made a little bobble it could cost you 4 - maybe 5 places so I had a lot more concentration on the little bike making sure I was catching the riders in front but still riding a safe race and not making to many mistakes, the work paid of with a 8th place which I was delighted with.

Race 2 mx1: I was not to happy with this one, I had a brutal start and it took me so long getting through the pack that by the time the race was finished I had only got back to 15th so it was disappointing for me.

Race 2 mx2 : This race was not any better sadly, a tight first turn saw me boxed in, I had to shut off, that put me dead last of the start and it took me ages to get through the pack. I had made some stupid mistakes trying to make the ground up but managed to redeem myself from them, I had got back to 16th place with my team mate, Jim Davies on the 125, ahead of me, we had a very good little ding dong in the last couple laps but half way around the last lap he made a small mistake and left the door open for me and I was able to grab 15th place, with 14th place just ahead time I charged on but there no time left to get him.

So, a hard two weeks racing for me but fun, all I got to do is keep working hard and my result will slowly get better and better. This weekend is the Redbull pro nationals in Canada heights hopefully it will be a nice weekend because they always host a very good event. I was lying in 2nd place in the 250 open 2stroke championship but with a dnf it leaves me somewhere down in 7th, I’ll be doing some catching up this weekend so watch this space, hopefully a podium finish.

See you all soon
