Electraction TM's Phillip McLaughlin Retires From Competition  (Sep 8, 2010)

It is with regret that Electraction TM's Phillip McLaughlin has been forced to announce his retirement from international enduro competition due to on-going health issues. After a rigorous winter of testing and training, McLaughlin entered this season with high hopes of building on his performances in both the Enduro World Championship (EWC) and British Enduro Championship. But unfortunately a high-speed crash during the EWC GP of Spain triggered off a chain reaction of health problems that later saw Phillip lose consciousness no less than four times throughout the year. Evident that something was drastically wrong with the Northern Irishman, Phillip sought medical help. After many tests and medical consultations with many different doctors, Phillip was eventually diagnosed with a cardiac problem that causes him to lose consciousness under a dramatically elevated heart rate. Regrettably this illness is irreversible and for that reason alone he has been forced to withdraw indefinitely from competition.

Phillip will continue to be involved with Electraction TM for the foreseeable future along continuing to expand his suspension and engine tuning business; Phillip McLaughlin Performance.

Phillip McLaughlin: "Calling time on racing has been a very difficult decision to make but it's the only option I'm faced with. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank those that have helped me in anyway possible achieve my goals of competing at world championship level notably my mother, grandparents, girlfriend, close friends and the Paget family for their support and hospitality throughout 2009. I'd like to thank Nick Craigie of Electraction TM, he is an amazing man and his enthusiasm for the sport is second to none. I cannot possibly thank him enough for the opportunity he has given me since 2008, he made everything possible for me to live the dream. Also thank you to those who helped me along the way, Mike of TMUK, CCM Racing, Fox Racing, Gearne, Smith Goggles, Rick and Rowly Suitor, Ivan McBride and Mark Arnott. It has been an amazing experience!"
